'Vinnies' is the youth arm of the Catholic organisation, Society of St Vincent de Paul. Since the early 1900’s, young people have been involved with the work of the Society throughout New Zealand. St Vincent de Paul (1581 – 1660), born to a peasant family in France, was known for his compassion, humility, and generosity.
The objective of Vinnies is to encourage students to realise there are people in our society in desperate need, and to better understand the plight of the homeless and the impacts of poverty. ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥'s College has two active Vinnies Groups namely Young Vinnies from Years 7 to 10, and Vinnies from Years 11 to 13.
The Vinnies Programme looks into social justice and encourages leadership. The participants are encouraged to offer help to the school, and to people in the wider community. They can also participate in a Homeless Retreat, a Vinnies Camp and Vinnies Masses with other Catholic Secondary Schools in the greater Auckland region.
