Model United Nations Assembly 2023

ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥’s College was sponsored by the good folks of Westhaven Rotary to take two teams to the Model United Nations Assembly this year. We were assigned the teams of Norway and Indonesia, and with that in mind, the research for the remits we would speak on began.

Norway chose to speak on two remits, firstly that the UN should comment on the conflict in Ukraine and secondly that the UN should vote to reaffirm its commitment to limit environmental damage. They were tasked with a 2-3 minute presentation to the other 90-odd teams there. The boys acquitted themselves well and clearly articulated their country's position.

Our other team of Year 11 students bravely shouldered the challenge of representing Indonesia. They gallantly elected to speak on the remits of gender inequality and a fairer justice system. Their ability to withstand pressure was quickly put to the test with their authentic portrayal of their country’s positions.

Our students did well, politicking, wheeling and dealing and from their enthusiastic responses. I think we will be back next year.

The whole MUNA experience would not have been complete without a report back to the kind folks at Rotary Westhaven who both helped organise the event and subsidised our attendance.
