Music 22 September 2023

It has been a massive term for music with so much to reflect on. The Concert Band performed at KBB festival and the young men and women of the combined choir went to Cadenza in Rotorua. Both of these groups exceeded their expectations in respect to the quality of performance at both of these events, bringing much pride to the music department and school as a whole. Many of our young musicians have continued to strive for more and stepped up in every area of their music making.

As the term comes to an end and the entire contents of the music department is emptied out to make way for a freshly renovated space, it is good to look back over the past decade with gratitude to the many young men during that time who have made music what it has become today at ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥'s. From humble beginnings with one or two broken guitars, to the well-resourced and functional department that we now see.

Thank you to all the young men, past and present, who have done the mahi and pushed past the boundaries, making music with whatever resources they had. Performance culture is now normalised at ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥'s College! That was the goal.

What next?

  • We continue to rehearse our concert band every Tuesday of the school term at 7:45am, in the chapel for Term 4.
  • We continue to expect our young men to practice at home for at least 10 minutes a day.
  • We continue to have high expectations of your son and his musical education.
  • We look forward to what the next season holds for the musically talented young men of ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥'s College.

Enjoy the teaching recess and enjoy some well-deserved rest.
