In Week 4 of Term 3 we celebrated Book Week as a school and encouraged every student to take home at least one Fiction and one Non-Fiction book from our well-resourced school library.
We were delighted to host two events. Firstly our very talented art teacher, Mrs Chummun, gave a lunchtime talk in the library about her experience attending the 2008 Beijing Olympics as an Art Ambassador representing Mauritius. We also hosted Avi Duckor-Jones, an award-winning author, and winner of the very first NZ Survivor on TV, currently based on Waiheke teaching at the local high school. Both events attracted a wide audience and the students enjoyed the engagement.
We undertook two competitions. The Best Book Review Competition, where we encouraged students to upload onto Accessit (the school library database) a review of their favorite book held in the ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥'s Library. We also held A Creative Book Cover Competition, in conjunction with the Art Department, and the winners will be announced in assembly shortly. Neil Fernandes, one of our Head Librarians, created a very imaginative Book Clue Treasure Hunt for Year 7 & 8 students during allocated library periods which proved a big hit with our junior students and chocolate bars were won by the winning teams.
As Frank Zappa said, “So many books, so little time”, so let's all get reading.
