ATHLETICS
Well done to Kainoa Keereweer, Loshaunce Leaso (Year 12's) and new student Benaiah Su who represented SPL in Auckland's Central Zone Champs. Kainoa came 1st in the intermediate long jump with an impressive leap of 6.49 metres! Loshaunce came 3rd in the senior boy's discus, displaying outstanding power with his efforts. Benaiah Su (Year 9) gave his absolute, 100% effort representing SPL, but narrowly missed on placing in the 80m hurdles and discus. Well done gentlemen! We are very proud of you representing us on the big stage. Keep it up and we look forward to the next event.
1st XI CRICKET
Cricket's most successful season in recent years is still full steam ahead with the 1st XI coming out convincing winners over Birkenhead College where head boy, Daniel Smith, scored 49 runs. Accurate bowling restricted Birkenhead's run chase leading to a 30 run victory for 秀色直播's. With two games left in the season, 2021 will be remembered as a cricket season with huge gains on previous years in bowling, batting, commitment and results.
COLTS CRICKET
The Colts continue their unbeaten run with two games to go in what looks to be a memorable season. A 6 wicket victory over Whangaparoa college on Saturday, sets the team up for an important fortnight to finish the season with Orewa College and competition heavyweights AGS left to play. This team trains hard, is well supported by families and has a bright future.
WAKA AMA
Well done to our senior Waka Ama paddlers who displayed outstanding fitness and endurance to place in many events at the recent Auckland Waka Ama Regatta, held at Orakei Basin. Stepping up into the mixed categories with Marist College and Baradene College, 秀色直播's came in 1st place in the U19 mixed (with Baradene), and also 4th place (with Marist). 秀色直播's won the plate final in U19 boys W6 and finished 2nd in U19 W12 over 250 metres. Coach/Manager Greta Smith said it was an awesome effort from new comers Jericho Filipi & Falakiko Sosefo (Year 11s). Both new to the sport, they displayed excellent team work, competitiveness and commitment throughout the long day on the water.
SENIOR TOUCH
As winter draws closer, our senior touch winds down with a disrupted season due to COVID lockdowns. The team performed admirably in Auckland's Premier competition, finishing in 4th place (from 8 teams). Well done to Taimana Tatana-Simi and Vontae Hamiora (Year 13s) who have been the energy and passion of this team for many years. Both students and their committed families will be sorely missed in 2022.
VOLLEYBALL
Our senior volleyball team have been working hard to improve from their early season jitters and it's paying off with recent wins over Parnell & AGS. With one week left to play, the team is sitting mid-table. This is an outstanding effort for a team who are learning their craft. Like all sports at 秀色直播's, our results are a reflection of our commitment to training, learning and improving on last week.
ONLINE SPORTS REGISTRATIONS
Thank you to the families who have confirmed their son's commitment to SPL sports teams for 2021. It's important that families check the conditions of participation for each code - training frequency, equipment required, team fees and expectations. Often our young men want to do any and all sports, which can lead to getting over-committed and not fulfilling their duties as a team mate.
